Data Deceives Us
A public record for a book project about the limits of measurement and the certainty data can appear to offer; its work status is unknown, and no attributed abstract, manuscript, or excerpt appears here.
Data does not deceive by intention, but choices in collection, classification, and presentation can make a partial view resemble the whole truth. The inquiry begins before the number: what was counted, what was excluded, which period became the baseline, and how behavior changed once people learned which measure would define success.
The project could connect data literacy with institutional judgment: read a measure with its context, seek the cases it cannot explain, and compare a reversible decision with a broad claim that will be difficult to correct. This is a public description of a possible field, not a quotation from a manuscript or an announcement of completion or publication.
